DuksGC service guide
Getting your Ontario garage ready for winter
Preparing the garage before colder weather can make daily use simpler. You may want room for the car, easy access to a shovel, or a clear place for wet outdoor gear. The most useful improvements are often practical: clear the access route, understand what is stored, and plan for salt and moisture. These tips are for Ontario households in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, and Guelph and do not require buying a whole new storage system.
Make room for the car and people
Check the space needed to park, open the car doors, and walk safely to the house. Boxes and equipment that fit comfortably in summer may be inconvenient when everyone is carrying winter gear. Group items you use less often away from the main route, without blocking doors or electrical equipment. Keep frequently used tools accessible. If the garage is crowded, make disposal decisions before assuming that everything will fit on a shelf. DuksGC can help with agreed cleaning and organization, but we do not haul away unwanted belongings.
Plan for snowmelt and road salt
Tires and boots can bring snow, slush, and salt into the garage. Meltwater can leave residue as it dries, and repeated moisture and salt exposure can contribute to wear on concrete. Clear loose debris and inspect areas where moisture tends to remain. Use floor-care methods suitable for the coating or sealer you have. Do not assume an aggressive cleaner is safe for epoxy or paint. If the floor is cracked or flaking, cleaning will not repair it. Ask for an assessment and realistic expectations rather than a promise of a brand-new surface.
Store seasonal equipment thoughtfully
Group summer equipment and check that anything stored is dry enough for its intended storage conditions. Put winter tools where they can be reached without moving several unrelated boxes. Labels can make unfamiliar bins easier to identify, especially when several household members use the garage. Keep heavy items in sensible positions and secure anything that could fall. Follow product instructions for batteries, tools, and chemicals; a general garage clean is not a substitute for those safety requirements. Avoid leaving unknown materials in unmarked containers.
Check access and everyday safety
Walk through the garage as you would on a busy winter morning. Look for clutter in the route, poorly placed cords, or stored items that make doors difficult to use. Keep children and pets away from work areas and chemicals. Do not use outdoor fuel-burning equipment indoors. If you notice electrical problems, major cracks, or a failed floor coating, seek the appropriate specialist rather than expecting a cleaner to fix them. Tell us about hazards or fragile items before a job so we can decide what work can be completed safely.
Choose the help you actually need
A basic clean may suit a garage that only needs sweeping and a tidy. Floor residue and heavier buildup may call for Deep Clean, while crowded storage can benefit from Deep Clean + Organization. Compare the real size-based prices and explain any optional work before booking. Photos are useful but optional, and no payment is required to request an appointment. The first-booking discount is automatic when eligible. If you are unsure where to start, text your question. We confirm the date, scope, and final price before beginning your garage clean.
